You're going to discover now all about the features of NoAdware and the settings. I'll explain them in an easy to understand way, so even if you have no computer experience you'll still understand.

Remember I'm going to explain all the features and settings - all of which you can access from the Options Menu (Fig. 1.1).

Let's start with the first option which is the Settings.
So clicking on Settings we'll see this window:

 NoAdware™ Settings

On this window you can modify these settings:
  • Specifiy if you want NoAdware™ to start automatically when your computer starts.

  • Specifiy if you want NoAdware™ to start automatically and also to perform a scan each time your computer starts.

  • Save information called a log file. If you contact us for support about some adware or spyware this file may be useful for us to solve any issues. The file is like a diary that notes down the names of adware or spyware that infected your computer and so on.

  • You can specify if NoAdware™ shows you a confirmation message before removing adware or spyware.

  • Automatically check for updates. This feature turned on means NoAdware™ will automatically download and install updates without you having to do anything.

If you do not know what settings your need to enable or disable... we have created a tutorial that tells you our recommendations. You can view this tutorial on NoAdware™ download page.

Protection against 585 Fake Software and Toolbars

The second option is called ActiveX Shields. There are 585 software and toolbars that we know of that try to install on your computer - without your permission!

With a click of a button you can enable this feature that prevents any of these 585 dangerous software to be installed on your computer. If you ever come across any websites that has any one of these 585 harmful software or toolbars NoAdware™ software will remove them automatically and they're gone forever. Remember you cannot see these software or toolbars, only NoAdware™ can detect and block them.

You usually get infected with spyware and adware when any of these 585 dangerous software is installed on your computer. This feature makes sure that never happens.

You simple select Enable ActiveX Protection in the window below to enable this feature.

Web Browser and Computer Protection

The third option is called Configure Shields. There are various shields that protect your computer and even your web browser if you use Internet Explorer - from various threats. You can enable all of these shields so they protect your computer
(Fig. 1.2).

Let me know explain to you what all of these shields do in an easy to understand way.

Protect IE Favorites

Let's say there's a video on Youtube that you want to add to your Favorites in Internet Explorer. The favorites are also called bookmarkes sometimes.

When you do this NoAdware™ will display a message
(Fig. 1.3).

Fig. 1.3

The message contains the URL you're going to add to your favorites and if you click Yes it will be added, if you click No it won't be added to your favorites.

Why is this helpful?

Some harmful websites automatically try to add themselves to your favorites without your permission. So if that happens you'll see a message and you can click No! and the website won't be added to your favorites without your permission. It will be removed.

IE Hijack Shields

This shield protects your computer from different "objects" that you can find when you're on the Internet, better known as add-on programs, software, popups and so on. These dangerous objects create unwanted popups appearing on your screen and the "objects" contain spyware and adware. This shield blocks all these "objects" that have spyware and adware.

Hosts File Shield

This is difficult to explain in an easy way. Windows hosts files are important files that are used by Windows in order to allow you to use your computer. These can be manipulated by spyware and adware programs. The effects will be that your web browser will start to show you advertisements or when you visit a website you'll be automatically redirected to websites showing you advertisements. This shield protect these important files.

Real Time Protection

Whenever you connect to the Internet, you go online, this shield protects your computer from adware and spyware that is located on various websites. There are many websites that contain adware and spyware - without protection these spyware or adware will damage your computer.

NoAdware™ database contains thousands of different adware or spyware. If any of these are found while you're using the Internet they are blocked! The database is constantly updated as well because new adware or spyware are created everyday.

Real Time Protection is one of the most important shields - you can safely browse the web knowing that if there's adware or spyware NoAdware
is going to block it instantly. NoAdware™ tells you when it blocks any spyware or adware by showing you a message.

Cookies Shield

What are cookies? Cookies are not bad most of the time, cookies are files stored in your browser - some websites have cookies and they are used to remember information for your next visit (like Yahoo sign in page) so you don't have to enter your information (such as usernames) each time you visit.

However this shield makes sure that no bad cookies are added to your computer.

Startup Programs Shield

Whenver you download a software and install it some of these software automatically open up when your computer starts. This feature will show you a message whenever a software is going to add itself to your startup list. Startup list is the list of programs that open up when your computer starts.

This option allows you to specify which programs you allow and which you don't. The main benefit of this is that if there's a software that contains spyware and tries to mess with your startup list NoAdware™ will notify you and you can block it. The second benefit is that if you have just installed a software and you don't want that this software opens up everytime you start your computer - you just select No if you see the message from NoAdware
™.

IE Homepage Shield (maintain the following page)

This shield makes sure no website tries to change your homepage url. You'll see a message by NoAdware that allows you to approve or not the change. So if you change your homepage yourself you approve if you did not you simple click No.

If you do not know what features your need to enable or disable... we have created a tutorial that tells you our recommendations. You can view this tutorial on NoAdware™ download page.

Restore Items

NoAdware™ automatically creates a backup file after you scan so if something wrong happens after you scan, you can select a backup file and restore everything back to how it was. This is a useful feature in the rare case you experience problems with your computer after you make a scan.

Scheduling Scans - Automatic Scanning

This is another useful feature that is built into the NoAdware™ software. With this you can schedule times when NoAdware™ will automatically scan your computer. This is useful if you need to scan your computer often. However this is mainly used by Big Companies who make use of lots of files on their computers - and therefore need to scan often.

You can tell NoAdware
™ to make a scan every week or every day, you can also give it the exact time to scan. You need to have your computer turned on for NoAdware™ to make the scan.

Scan Settings

It's recommended you make a Full System scan (which may take somewhere between 40 mins to an hour to finish) every 3 months.

The Smart System scan is used to make a quick scan, it will take less time but not all of your computer files are scanned. You don't need to use this feature, we recommend you use the Full System scan once every 3 months.

NoAdware™ has a database of thousands of spyware and adware. The list gets updated regularly whenever there are new spyware or adware. When you do a scan NoAdware™ checks every file, folder, etc to see if there's any of these thousands of adware or spyware that NoAdware™ knows of located somewhere on your computer. If there is you'll then be able to remove them.

Ignore Items

You probably won't need to use this feature, but if there's a cookie that NoAdware™ keeps finding after scanning - you can simple add it to the Ingore List. Some cookies are genuinue and not bad, but NoAdware™ may still give you the option to remove them. Many times if you visit the certain sites like the Yahoo Sign In page over and over again these will add cookies to your computer each time, so even if you remove them they'll re appear.

So you can simple add them to the ignore list. No harm is done by adding them to the ignore list if you know they are cookies from safe websites.

Just right click on any item and click on Add to Ingore list.
