Part 1 of How To Be Safe Online!

Posted by: Karl Smith on April 9, 2010

Yesterday I told you I’m going to mention how to prevent viruses and so on. You’re going to NEED a pen and paper seriously. You need to just write the following down somewhere to remember them.

The THREE software you need to have on your computer.

Tow of these are absolutely FREE:

Anti Virus software – if you have one already remove it assuming you haven’t paid for it. If you bought it of course I can’t tell you to remove it, it probably is good – but if you have a free antivirus software remove it and install this one: Avast from here:

Avast antivirus software is also FREE but it still has the two most important features: Real Time Protection and Updates.

Click on Download Now

Then you’ll see this page and click again on Download Now:

Then wait a bit and you’ll see a message – click Save.

Download and install it on your computer. Make sure it opens up automatically whenever you start your computer. The next time you start your computer you should see an icon near your clock like the one marked by the arrow in this screenshot:

Sometimes the icon spins as well.

Here’s what to write down on a piece of paper:

1) You need to scan your computer with antivirus software once every 3 months. If you use your computer rarely like once a week only you can scan once every 4 months. But in any case scan often, at least once every 3 months.

To scan right click on the icon and click on Start avast! Antivirus

Then wait 1-2 minutes until you see the main screen:

Here’s how to scan:

Select Local Hard Disks:

(Click image to see it bigger)

Move that pointer by clicking it and dragging all the way to Thorough

(Click image to see it bigger)

Then click Start scan

(Click image to see it bigger)

If the antivirus software finds any viruses there will be a message and a button called Move To Chest. Click on that one, stay relaxed. Just click on that button.

Once the antivirus has finished just click the OK buttons to close it. Remember never exit the software, the icon should always be there of course even after you scan your computer. If you’re connected to the Internet the antivirus icon should be near the clock.

The second thing to remember is that when you see this message click on it:

That message is notifying you that there are new updates. All you have to do is to click on it and then wait until updates are installed. This small message is displayed near the icon near the clock.

This is not rocket science to do – just follow the instructions and if you get stuck somewhere drop me a message.

Next coming up: Anti spyware software and registry cleaner software – the two other software you should have and use on your computer. To make sure you read these posts with a pen and paper enter your name and email in the boxes on the sideber – you’ll get notified via email once I add new posts on this blog.

OR you can use the RSS feed to subscribe in RSS readers like Google Reader and read this blog and all new blog posts directly from an RSS reader like Google Reader.

Stay Tuned!

One Email Can Destroy Your Computer!

Posted by: Karl Smith on April 8, 2010

As alerting as that title is, it’s true.

You’re about to discover how hackers (people who steal other people’s information by accessing their computers) get inside your computer – and be able to do any of this:

>> View all your computer files/folders (as if they’re using your mouse).

>> See passwords you type (even if passwords are hidden with ***) and see all websites you visit in Real Time.

>> Watch you as well if you have a webcam.

>> Even listen to you if you use the phone/mobile close to your computer.

>> Delete files/destroy your computer if they want making it unuasable since they have 100% access to it.

How they do that?

All of that just by sending you ONE email… The email contains a picture. If you open to see the picture the virus infects your computer and the hacker can do all of the above.

The picture includes the virus. Sounds incredible easy right for them to do this. It is.

email security solution

In the next few days I’m going to reveal ways to be more secure online – re mentioning many of what I already posted about on this blog.

Here’s the topics you shall find out about:

Email: How to protect yourself from viruses included in email (these are some of the worst viruses)

The two security software you must have on your computer. What features these software need to have before you decide to invest your money in them (one is 100% free).

Other tools your computer already has that you should use to protect your computer.

How to create passwords the right way.

And much more! So on the right side of this blog (the sidebar) there’s a box where you can enter your name and email – 1st you’ll get a FREE ebook with many tips (many of whom I won’t reveal here) plus you’ll get automatically notified in your email once I add new post on this blog.

Alternatively you can also subscribe to the RSS feed. Your privacy is safe with us, you can always unsubscribe. I give you my word: You’ll find the coming posts very useful!
