How To Save Excel File To Zip

A Zip file is like a basket bag. You use a basket bag when you have to carry a lot of things – you cannot hold everything on your hands…

A zip file is normally used when you want to send via email – transmit on the web, etc a lot of files. You put all the files and folders you want to send for example via email in ONE single file called a zip file.

To do that, and for this example we will put only one file, an excel file you first need a zip tool.

For example Izarc free zip tool from: http://www.izarc.org

So after you download and install that software, go to the excel file and right click on it as this example:

Now the options you see when you right click may be slightly different, but you have to place the mouse on the Send to… to open the menu which you see below:

Again it may be slightly different on your computer, but from the second menu choose: Compressed (zipped) folder

When you do that if the excel file was called: myexcelfile.xlv you will now see a new file above or below it or somewhere in the same folder called myexcelfile.zip in any case the icon next to the file will look like this one:

You can double click on it and it will open up the zip file – you will see the excel file.

If you want to send an entire folder you can as well, just follow the same steps. You can also send more than one folder to a zip file at the same time… by selecting the folders you want to send – to do that if the folders are underneath each other click on the first one, press and hold the Shift key on your keyboard and then click on the last folder. That should highlight all the folders.

If the folders are not directly underneath each other click the first folder, press and hold the CTRL key on your keyboard and click on each of the other folders.

You can finally also rename the zip file that is created – anything you wish of course… to do that you can right click on the zip file, select Rename…

I tried the method outlined and tested the zip file using the online zip file lister (zipfilelist.com). I could have easily downloaded the zip myself and opened it to verify the contents, but zipfilelist.com allows me to use their service for automated testing, which comes in pretty handy. Happy to say, your method for saving the Excel file to a zip file worked.
