Not just XP but other versions of windows like vista too have the system restore feature – which I suggest you turn it on.
But another option for you, especially if you have lots of important files, documents etc on your computer; not just games

Now this is a backup tool – not a tool that can restore your computer to an earlier point and with doing so fixing some problems. This does not fix problems like Windows system restore – it backups files. So that’s why leave system restore on if possible.
With mozy you get an online account and a downloadable software. The software allows you to backup your entire computer if you wish – or a couple files, or just one – the point is you can backup using this software. The backup is saved on the Mozy servers not on yours and you have unlimited storage capacity.
So the backup files are also saved not on your computer but on other servers – that’s more safer.
So you want to restore a file, a folder or anything else you have backed up – then you have multiple options. My preferred option is using the Mozy hardrive. This is like your windows drive c:, you’ll see a new icon in the My Computer folder…
In it you will see all the files you ever backed up – so you just navigate to the file or folder you want to restore from the backup and click restore.
Other options include ordering a backup on DVD (they will ship it to you), or opening the software and clicking on the Restore Files button – then searching for the files to restore.
So Mozy for less than $5 a month is a great backup tool. Has all the features you need.
