Regestry Cleaner
Regestry Cleaner
Also spelled registry not regestry. But I still see people typing it like that...
There are software that allows you to clean the registry. By cleaning it means they clean the BAD items in the registry. The registry has ton of files and folders that are extremely important. If you delete some of them your computer might not work the same again.
However there are BAD items that should be removed. When you install software, applications or do other things on your computer you are adding Registry Items. So if you uninstall a software you can also REMOVE the registry items that it has added.
So if you uninstall any programs you should also clean your registry. Almost all programs you install, add registry items. These can only be removed safely by a registry cleaner. Note that if you do it manually it will take you a TON of TIME and probably also a TON of ERRORS :)
My favorite is Eusing from eusing.com They have other software so here is link to the Registry Cleaner.
I also use Ccleaner from ccleaner.com. The software does more than just remove bad registry items.
Using Eusing is enough but ccleaner is useful for other things - basically to remove junk files like temporary internet files, cookies, cache and many more. I posted another blog post about ccleaner - How To Delete Tracking Cookies
Bad Things Do Happen:
I told you that programs or software, whatever you install add items to the registry. In the case that you are infected with certain type of spyware, viruses adware and so on these also add registry items.
That is the reason why on my posts such as: Manual Removal Of AdwareBlast Virus - I tell you to delete certain registry entries/items. These critical objects also install registry items - that a registry cleaner cannot clean. Usually anti spyware/adware and similar software do delete the items but in some cases you have to do it manually.
Luckily we know what the items are so I can easily tell you to find an item in the registry and delete it like I do often. (Example: Manual removal of Adblaster adware)
Let me recap:
The registry cleaner contains folders and files - that are very important. Software and many other things add items in these folders and files - they add new items. Some of the items are no longer needed that is why we use a Registry Cleaner - that basically cleans the crap.
Viruses, trojans, adware, spyware and so on also add registry items - certain type of adware cannot be removed automatically and so you have to delete the registry items (apart from other things to totally remove the adware/spyware etc) manually.
But the most important part is that you always need to create a backup of your registry if you are going to delete anything. Plus do not play around with the folders if you have some free time - do no rename, delete, move around files or folders!!!
To see the registry:
Click Start, then Click Run. Type in Regedit and Hit OK.

I must agree too, it's a very good registry cleaner. CCleaner is another excellent alternative if you're looking for free ones.

I am impressed with the working of registry cleaners. It really improves system startup and response time by removing invalid registry entries, creating new registry from old one, customizing windows setting and optimizing memory.
