How To Eliminate Duplicate Bookmarks In Firefox

First of all I suggest you create a backup of your bookmarks. In case you delete important bookmarks you can restore them easily.

I prefer to backup all my bookmarks on a floppy disk but you can also backup on your computer.

1) Click on Bookmarks on the Top Menu and Select Organize Bookmarks.

2) Click on File, then Click on Export.

3) Select the folder where you want to save the backup. Double click on the folder and hit Save. You can save the backup anywhere you want. I suggest in your My Documents Folder. However if you have at least one empty floppy disk export backup on floppy - that is the safest method.

It is safest method cause even if your computer files get ALL lost which does happen but rarely - your backup will not get lost if it is on a floppy disk.

Now this is How to remove Duplicate Bookmarks

Once again:

1) Click on Bookmarks on the Top Menu and Select Organize Bookmarks.

There are three columns, NAME, LOCATION and DESCRIPTION on the right hand side of the Organize Bookmarks Window.

Right click on the NAME window and select Sort By Name This way if there are any duplicate bookmarks you will find them easily. They will appear two identically bookmarks under each other.

Note: If you have arranged your bookmarks in a specific order - like I did - that specific order will be canceled - instead the bookmarks will be sorted by name, be keyword, by size or any other method you choose.

To delete a bookmark you either right click on it and select delete, press the delete button on your keyboard or press the X button in the Organize Bookmarks window.

If you delete a bookmark by mistake you can select Edit and then Undo.

There are several other options available. The organize bookmarks window is easy to manage. Remember to save your new bookmarks after you delete duplicates. Save another backup in the same folder you saved the previous one. Replace the file with this new backup. It will tell you: Do you want to over write this file? You select YES.
