How To Backup Registry
Easier than you can imagine. Either do it automatically or manually. I like to take life easy – so I use the automatic method.
Automatic Method To Backup Registry:
There is a free software that creates the backup for you. I personally use it as well. The tool has more features apart from creating a backup of the WHOLE REGISTRY. Download Eusing Registry Cleaner software.
How to make a backup using that software:
Download, install and open the software. A small window will open, just click on SKIP button.
1) Click on File,
2) Click on Backup Full Registry
3) Select a location where you want to save the backup. Maybe it is in the My Documents Folder. You can also insert a Floppy Disk and put the backup on the floppy. In that case choose the Floppy [A:] from the Save In: List. You can also put backup on CD – if you have a CD writer drive.
That is the method I use – the safest method. If computer get harmed your backup is safely stored on floppy.
4) Now type a name for the backup in the File Name: box and Hit SAVE. You can put any name. I use Main REG backup.
Now the software goes to work creating the backup and you can see the progress.
That’s all!
Manual Method To Backup Registry:
Still very easy method.
1) Click Start, then Click Run. Now type in Regedit.
Regedit is the registry manager – you now right click on the My Computer icon in the Regedit. Then select Export. Again like the automatic method choose where you wanna save the folder. Maybe it is in My Documents, floppy or anywhere you want.
Put a name in the File name: box and hit save.
That’s all!
How To Restore A Registry Backup
You create a backup so that if you accidentally delete some important registry files you can restore them. Or if your computer looses data because of a virus for example, you can restore the data.
NOTE: To be able to restore the backup properly you need to close any programs you are running including Internet Explorer. So note these TWO STEPS down somewhere. They are quite easy and then close the browser to start. (If you do not close all programs the backup cannot be fully restored)
1) Click Start, then Click Run, type in Regedit and hit OK.
Now click on File, Import.
Find the backup file you saved previously. Locate it in the folder you saved. If you saved in My Documents folder – find the folder and then click on the backup file once.
You have to insert the floppy or CD if you placed the backup on them – obviously
2) Now hit OPEN.
Then let Regedit work until it is finished restoring the backup. Now you can close Regedit.
That showed you two methods to create a backup of your registry. And a method to restore a backup. You should create a backup if you are gonna delete some registry files or just edit something in the registry. Feel free to post your comments.
