Why I Operate My Computer So Fast

I will mention tips to speed up your computer.

Are You Jealous? :) It's true mine is very fast.

I mentioned in other posts that I do not have anything on my Desktop. I removed all icons, and I access them easily and safely via the run command.

This is the method to open up any program using the run command - super easy!

Click Start, Then Click Run
Now Click Browse.
Now find the program you want to open. For this example we choose Mozilla Firefox. Do the steps as if you are opening it. Therefore find the folder, then find the icon. Then Hit Open.

You will see the path written automatically and also saved automatically for the next time you want to open that folder. Finally Hit OK.

This saves time. Plus you can now remove all shortcuts. This is the best shortcut. Other shortcuts lying on start menu, desktop or anywhere else decrease computer speed. They take space.

This is another method which is not as easy as the first. But I still wanted to share it with you.

For example to open Mozilla Firefox I
Click Start,
Then Click Run
Type in:
C:/program files

Then double click on Mozilla Firefox folder, and double click on Mozilla Firefox icon. That is easy once you get used to it.

Another fast method is to type the complete path in the Run command.

Instead of typing C:/program files and going to the appropriate folder you can simple type in:
c:/program files/mozilla firefox/firefox.exe

Firefox opens. So in other words, to make this sound easy for you - just find the path of the program you wish to open. To do that:

Click Start,
Then Click Run
Type in:
C:/program files

Find the program for example Internet Explorer. Double click on the folder. Then find Internet Explorer icon. Now at the top of the window you will see the path. It looks something like:
C:/program files/Internet Explorer

That is what you want to copy. Then Click Start, Run and type in C:/program files/Internet Explorer/

Before you hit OK, you need also to put the name of Internet Explorer Icon. That is iexplore.exe

So to open up Internet Explorer you Click Start, Click Run and type in:
C:/program files/Internet Explorer/iexplore.exe

RELAX, this is easy once you understand it, read it once again. This will help you open up programs with two mouse clicks. Your computer will also save these commands - so when you need to open Internet Explorer again - the path is already written in the Run command. No need to write it again. The only time it will get removed is when you empty recycle bin.

I told you in another posts that you should not clean your recycle bin too often. Recylce Bin - Improve Performance Tips.

Obviously the first method is much easier.

These are the run commands I personally use:

c:/program files/mozilla firefox/firefox.exe (to open Mozilla Firefox)

notepad (to open notepad - yes just enter the words notepad)

a:/ (to open floppy disk - if you insert a floppy disk, you can easily open its content)

e:/ (to open Cd Rom Drive)

So you can now start using the run command. Get used to it. It is located on the Start Menu to act as a short method to open up programs. However few people ever use it cause they do not know why it is there. The run command is priceless for me.

When I used the computer for the first time, I used to visit Windows Explorer. Then find the program I want to open by searching in the folders. Then double clicking it and finally wait for program to open.

With the run command you start the program with two mouse clicks and you can remove Windows Explorer from Start >> Programs. It is safe to remove - in the Programs Menu those are all shortcuts. Only the Startup folder cannot be removed. Removing unwanted programs/shortcuts/files etc will free up space and speed up your computer.

I wish I knew about this before :)

Quick Tip: If you are still jealous that my computer is faster - get some self help book.
