This is a program I been using for a long time. It is freeware called IZARC. I tried other tools as well, but I cannot compare them with IZARC.
It opens several files types, not just zip files. You can download zip files and open them easily with a click of the button. Extract zip files to a folder. Manage zip files, create zip files - and a ton more features. Then it has other features un related to zip files - like converting file types, open image files - and such features not very commonly used. You can create self extracting archives and more...
Another cool feature is the ability to repair broken archives. The list of features is not short but long. I compare it with an elephant NOT an ant :)
This tool has no virus or spyware/adware. It is safe to download - but do as usually scan any files you download before you install them.
The software comes with skins too (there is a tutorial about creating skins to change the shape and design of the software if you wish ) - a forum, tutorials, support by email and there is no hidden cost. Even though it is super easy to use.
You can create archives or open archives simple by right clicking on them.

Other programs I used are not so easy to use, and have less features. Others are not completely free - just a free trial. So this is the one I use, I recommend and the one you can rely on. The all popular zip tool WinZip frustrated me a bit, cause they emailed me and told me several times that the software is not FREE. I had to pay - which obviously I did not.
I trashed WinZip and after some research find IZARC. I am talking about IZARC from my experience. I been using it for a year now.
