Messed Up My Documents Desktop Icon

Messed Up My Documents Desktop Icon

Keep in mind that desktop icons that got removed does not mean they got deleted. Your My Documents folder is still ALIVE - thank God for that :)

How To Place The My Documents Icon On Your Desktop AGAIN

1) Click Start, then Click Run
2) Type in C:/
3) Double Click on the folder named - Documents and Settings
4) Find your username if you have Win XP. Double click on that and you will see your My Documents Icon.

If you do not have windows xp you will see My Documents Icon after clicking on Documents and Settings folder.

Now click once on the My Documents icon. Click once and keep holding your mouse button. Now drag the mouse button on your desktop. It means you should move the mouse button. You should see the icon also moving. IF NOT:

Make sure you clicked on the icon and kept holding the click. Then move.

When you see the icon moving along with the mouse and you arrive on the desktop stop holding the mouse click. The icon will be automatically placed on the Desktop.

Those were instructions as if you are going to cross the sea. But it is very easy to do.

Now if you messed up the icon in some other way - you need to state how. Use comment feature to tell me how (comment here on my blog) in the case the above did not solve your problem.

Other possible solutions.

If the icon got deleted, you can simple visit the recycle bin and click on the My Documents icon inside the bin. Then click on File, select Restore Item.

- You can also find your My Documents icon by doing this:

1) Click on Start, then Click Run
2) Now type in
c:/program files/
3) If you see a folder called Documents double click on it. Then there you are suppose to see your My Documents folder. Sometimes it is called Documents.

Extreme Solutions.

If your problem with this ICON is big, and you have Windows XP make a windows system restore. This will roll back your computer to an earlier state - if you or your computer ever created a restore point.

That is why creating a system restore point is very effective in case you have problems.

I suggest the article directly from Microsoft website. It covers all aspects of the Win XP system restore.

Do not be a stranger, tell us exactly how you MESSED up your My Documents icon. That way I can help you better. I reply within 24 - 48 hrs.

My Desktop filled with Icons, such as MS Word docs, short cut to some programs. Recently, the desktop icons messed up by automatically pasting on the desktop every time I turn on the PC ( by the way, I use Win XP Pro). How do I stop the auto desktop pasting??? It renames each icon with " Short Cut + name".

Please help. It likes a nightmare!

Please send any kind of help to my eamil at:

    Jimmy,

I emailed you. Basically it could be a spyware or adware... or a virus...

But few get help directly from Microsoft. That's best thing to do, since they follow up with you directly, basically work one - on - one until your issue is solved.

Yahoo answers is also a great place to get your problems solved.

First priority is scanning with internet security software you have.

Then fix any problems if found.
