Question #1
Adware problem…?
I recently scanned my computer with Norton Antivirus 2004. It found an infected file (C:\WINDOWS\system32\qoppp.dll… The display mentioned it to be “Adware.VirtuMonde”, but when I clicked on the link to the Symantec website, it stated that my adware was “Packed.Adware”. I cannot delete the file manually or through the antivirus program.
Every now and then, a pop-up appears saying that I have tons of virus infections, etc. I “X” that out, then a User License Agreement appears, asking if I want to install, and I “X” that out. Right after I “X” the User License Agreement, another pop-up comes advertising “WinAntivirus”.
So far, no site has been helpful in removing the problem. My antivirus definitions are up-to-date.
Please help.
Answer
You have been infected by the “winfixer”spyware….Download the remover tool of this type of spyware which software cannot automatically delete unfortunately. Details below.
After getting rid of the winfixer then go to Microsoft windows update site and get all your security updates.
Adware-Virtumundo Removal Tool v1.5 (Associated with WinFixer Popups)
This is for those of you who seem to have a lot of WinFixer popups and detections for Adware-Virtumundo (PUP) that can’t be removed.
Note: This tools does not remove the WinFixer application. WinFixer alone does not cause popups or disrupt the system. If WinFixer was installed on your system because Adware or a Trojan Downloader installed it without your permission, please remove it using the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel Applet.
Version 1.5
The tool has been re-written and updated to remove Adware-Virtumundo and MorWillSearch hijackers that have the following BHO names:
* [Blank]
* MSEvents Object
* ATLDistrib Object
* Bho
The tool should remove the main program file and basic registry entries associated with Virtumundo. The BHO and Winlogon Notify entries should be removed and a “kill bit” for ActiveX in Internet Explorer is added to prevent the BHO from working.
The tool has been updated to deny access to a file if it can not be renamed or disabled. This means that NO PROGRAM (not even most AVs) will be able to access the infected file. The owner of the file (Administrators) can still manually delete the file(s).
Finally, there is more information built into the tool about the program and what to expect if a STOP error occurs.

Question #3
Does Tripod give you Adware?
Does www.tripod.lycos.com/ give you Adware? The other day I was using Tripod to make a website and when I scanned my computer I found that my it was infected with 1 Adware, called IEplugin. IEPlugin is an adware program that displays advertisements on your computer.
Now, I’m not sure if it was Tripod, because yesterday I was searching around some pretty unsafe sites. I was browsing around iwon.com, zwinkie.com, and some other free website making sites. I was mainly using Tripod tough, so that is my main concern. I want to know if Tripod gives out Adware and/or any viruses/spyware?
Answer
Not heard of Tripod placing adware on people’s computers and I’ve been helping people with adware and spyware problems for some time now. They place adverts on the webpages when people view them but I guess you already know that.
If it happens again then look at the time the adware was installed and go through your Internet History or Temporary Internet Files to see which page you were browsing at the time the adware arrived.

Is CoffeeCup Spyware remover a malicious program? It flagged Limewire Pro as a spyware, when I know it’s not.
CoffeeCup Spyware remover is in the list of suspected programs. We are not however 100% certain it is malicious and at the same time is is highly suspicious.
Although it flagged Limewire Pro as spyware does not indicate CoffeCup is malicious. To make it short: No software is perfect.
I came to conclusion that WinFixer is relatively harmless itself, but it clearly shows the state of PC security. Since it exploits vulnerabilities in MS Internet Explorer, I always recommend to all who fell victim to winfixer, to switch to Firefox. Also, some kind of active antispyware protection is badly needed, though lots of unknown antispyware programs never detect none of the malware variants.
It’s also important that the anti spyware and adware program has real time protection. I said this numerous times on the blog.
Without real time protection you can only remove the spyware or adware after it infects your computer.
With real time protection you can stop the adware or spyware before it does any damage.
Real time protection does just that, protects your computer in real time while you are online.
NoAdware obviously has the powerful feature.
